I've always thought that I should try to shed some extra fat, but as you know it's considerably more effort than it seems. There's a great deal of talk flying around and much of it looks unreliable, or at least confusing. It's very tough to decide who's got the facts straight and who to believe. The easiest response ismerely to toss in the towel in confusion and do nothing, and that is precisely how I reacted for most of my life.
Then some 3 years ago I realized more and more were people reading about low carbohydrate eating plans. I was interested, but I couldn't really believe all the claims and I wasn't comfortable that those who were proposing them really understood them. I kept on asking myself just exactly how do carbs work?
Now, keeping to the point, I found that reducing high carb foods turned out to be the best way to lose weight for me, so I took the opportunity to research carbs and I'll share with you what I discovered on the subject of how do carbs work:
Carbs (or carbohydrates) are the most digestible kind of food energy for your body. There's no lack of energy in fat, but it is tied together in long proteins which allow it to be stored for many years. This means there is extra effort required to burn the energy held in fat, and to break down the dietary fat that you eat. Carbs, to the contrary, are quickly digested by your body and used for fuel. Therefore you will naturally prefer carbs if they are available and will subsequently store away the dietary fat. This is a key concept to remember.
Apparently the majority of us don't find ourselves carrying too much weight as a result of carbs, but rather the most prevalent result of excessive carbs is that they make it nearly impossible to lose weight. When you eat carbs all the time, your metabolism will use those incoming carbs for immediate energy every time, and any fat you eat will be saved as body fat. You definitely can't lose fat due to the fact that your system has no need to burn the fat that has been saved for energy... it has all it needs in an easy to use form from the carbs it gets from your diet. No doubt at this point you're starting to grasp how do carbs work!
This is the reason that the low carb diet can be so powerful for people that want to get rid of excess fat. If you stop giving your body a lot of carbohydrates, your body will have to come up with a source of energy in one way or another, and the only choice will likely be the fat you eat or the fat already stored in your body. It's actually quicker to use your stored fat (because it's human fat) than to use the fat in your diet (which is usually animal fat, and consequently different than a person's fat) so even if you still eat fat in your diet, by removing the bulk of the carbs, you can coerce your body to use the fat that's already there... and that's just what you're looking for!!
I'm don't claim to be a diet or health professional, but you can benefit from what I've learned by my own life. If you're interested in learning more, investigate these excellent websites that I've found for more detailed descriptions of how do carbs work and other important weight loss subjects.
